Smart Wearable Fragrance Device

My roleI architected Scentix’s device-to-app system at Quickgen and built its Bluetooth control app and misting control logic.
The situation
Fragrance fades within hours. Keeping it fresh means carrying a bottle, guessing when to reapply, and an awkward spritz in a meeting room or on the train.
The idea behind Scentix: a wearable that keeps your own fragrance working all day, so you never have to think about it.
- Wearable: small, light and designed to be seen, an accessory rather than a gadget.
- Open system: must work with the perfumes people already own, with no proprietary pods or subscription.
- Nothing on skin or clothes: no contact, no irritation, no stains.
- Control has to be instant from the phone, and automatic when the wearer forgets.
System architecture

Architecture decisions I made
- D1An open refill with a swappable latchAny liquid perfume or deodorant refills the device, and the latch makes swapping between scent profiles a few seconds’ job. No lock-in to overpriced pods.
- D2Ultrasonic outward mistingFragrance is released as a fine mist into the air around the wearer instead of sprayed onto skin, so there is no contact, no irritation and no staining.
- D3The phone is the control surfaceA Bluetooth app gives one-tap spray, an auto mode, mist intensity and a timer, so the fragrance adapts to the wearer’s schedule rather than the other way round.
- D4Mist only when it is neededSmart misting releases a light mist at the moments it matters, during motion, after workouts or before meetings, instead of on a blind fixed interval.
In practice
Auto mode, end to endillustrative example, real schema
- SetIn the app, the wearer turns on Auto Mode and picks an intensity and a timer interval.
- SyncThe settings travel to the device over Bluetooth in real time.
- DecideThe device’s mist logic combines the schedule with context, such as movement after a workout.
- MistThe ultrasonic atomiser releases a light outward mist from the wearer’s own perfume.
- OverrideOne tap on Spray in the app mists immediately, any time.

What I took away
- In consumer hardware, openness is a feature: letting people bring their own perfume removes the strongest objection.
- The app should remove decisions, not add them. Auto mode is the product; manual spray is the fallback.
